Karen Casey is a lifelong resident of Colchester North and currently lives in Valley, Colchester County, N.S. with husband, Glen. They have two married sons and two grandchildren.

Karen is a graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers College. She has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Mount Saint Vincent University, and has obtained her Masters in Education from Saint Mary’s University. Working in the education system, Karen was a classroom teacher, school administrator and assistant superintendent with the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board.

Karen is a former chair of the Colchester East Hants District Health Authority.

Elected in June 2006 as the MLA for Colchester North, Karen has been responsible for several portfolios in government:

• Minister responsible for the Youth Secretariat Act
• Minister responsible for the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act
• Minister of Health
• Minister of Education

Karen was re-elected in 2009 and joined the Liberal caucus team on January 10th, 2011. She is currently the Education Critic responsible for both public schools and early childhood development.
