Shinerama! In support of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Shinerama is Canada’s largest post secondary fundraising initiative and raises money for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Each year as university students return to campuses across Canada, they take time out of preparing for classes and getting settled into their school environment to hit the streets to raise funds. The concept is simple… Students disperse throughout the area and do a variety of things (sing, play an instrument, chant, display signs, dance, shine your shoes, carry your groceries, etc) in exchange for donations. Not only is the event fun, it’s for a great cause. Here is a list of Nova Scotia schools and the date they are participating in Shinerama this year:
Acadia University - September 11
Cape Breton University - September 25
Dalhousie University - September 7
Dalhousie University (Yarmouth) - September 11
Nova Scotia Agricultural College - September 11
St. Francis Xavier University - September 11
Mount Saint Vincent - September 11
Universite Sainte-Anne - September 11
So if you see a group of University Students out on the streets doing some wild and crazy things holding Shinerama donation boxes… please considering supporting their campaign. You can also donate online in support of one (or many) of the participating universities.
In 2009, 35,000 students at 60 university and college campuses across Canada raised $988,069 for cystic fibrosis research.
