McNeil Urges Nova Scotians To Support Lawrencetown In The Kraft Hockeyville Challenge

(Halifax, NS) The 12 finalists for the 2010 Kraft Hockeyville Challenge have been named and Liberal leader Stephen McNeil is encouraging Nova Scotia to throw its support behind Lawrencetown, Annapolis County - the province’s lone representative in the national contest.

“I am challenging all political parties in the province and all Nova Scotians to get out the vote for Lawrencetown,” says McNeil. “Our province is widely considered the birthplace of hockey and having Lawrencetown christened as Hockeyville 2010 would be a fitting tribute to the deep roots the game has here in Nova Scotia.”

“To me, this is a great opportunity not only for the village of Lawrencetown, but for our entire province,” McNeil says. “The passion for hockey has always been a force that ties us together as neighbors, as Nova Scotians and as Canadians.”

Kraft Hockeyville pits community against community across Canada for a prize package that includes $100,000 in arena upgrades, the right to host an NHL pre-season game and a CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcast live from the winning community.

Nova Scotians can vote for Lawrencetown in three ways:

• By going to CBC's HOCKEYVILLE Website and casting their ballot online.
• By SMS or texting “Vote Lawrencetown” to 111888.
• Or by calling toll free at 1-866-533-8066 and following the automated voice prompts.

“Unlike election campaigns, you can vote more than once,” says McNeil. “So vote early and vote often.”
